2009 saw an influx of green cars into the mainstream market but 2010 is set to be the year where they become far more commonplace on our roads. With the increased onus people are placing on their carbon footprint, greener cars are something moving to the forefront of more and more people’s minds. Here’s a look at some of 2010s best offerings:

Tesla: Roadster Sport

Believe it or not, Tesla has been producing eco-friendly cars since 2003 and between then and 2009 they received 900 orders for their original Roadster. Technically, the new Roadster Sport isn’t new for 2010 as it became available last year but with the increased public focus on the environment it is set to be Tesla’s biggest year yet. The car is run on an electric engine with zero carbon emissions but produces a massive 248bhp and can reach 60mph from a standstill in an astonishing 3.7 seconds!

Hyundai: Sonata Hybrid

Hybrid technology was pioneered by Toyata and since then Mercedes, BMW, GM, Ford, Honda and Nissan have all followed suit but relative to the car market the number of hybrid vehicles available is tiny. Hyundai are the latest manufacturer to come up with a hybrid concept, a version of its Sonata model that was displayed for the first time at the LA auto show back in November. The Sonata Hybrid has a 2.4 litre engine but also a 40bhp electric motor that combines with the combustion in the normal engine to drastically reduce emissions.

Chevrolet: Volt / Vauxhall: Ampera

This car will be known as the Chevrolet Volt in the US and it will be released by Vauxhall in Europe as the Ampera and is scheduled to hit the market in November. Another hybrid concept but with a bit of a twist, the car travels up to 40 miles solely using the lithium-ion battery powered engine then the normal engine takes over meaning it has a range of over 300 miles.

Nissan: LEAF

Probably the most hyped and anticipated green vehicle yet and after all the speculation 2010 is set to be the year when it is finally released. This car is a totally new technology and more practical than any other electric vehicle to date; it has a range of 100 miles and can be charged to 80 per cent capacity in just half an hour. It was rated by Time magazine as one of the top 50 inventions of 2009 and is expected to receive backing from Governments and companies worldwide.

Salvage is big business in a cash strapped World. Getting as much for your buck as possible is the way to maximise your profit on resale and buying salvage cars at auction can mean higher profits for businesses large and small. Discerning haulage contractors have made the best use of auction bargains for years and now smaller companies right down to the guy who just wants to buy a classic for spares are seeing the advantages of buying salvage cars at auction.

Online transactions are the most up to date way to go to get the best value when buying salvage. Information is key and getting as much of it as possible on each vehicle. Brochures or handout information on offer at the local car auction is usually cursory to say the least. Better detail is given online and through a professional and properly authorised auction broker. Seek out a good one and be exact about requirements to get the best short list.

Trawling every auction site in the country is impossible but by using the facilities available through an auto auction broker you can access the lowdown on hundreds of vehicles with concise damage reports. That way you know what you are getting; you know how much it is going to cost to ship; salvage cars at auction are way cheaper than buying a similar item as a used vehicle, even if it is borderline scrap.

Online brokers receive information directly from the insurance companies that supply the damaged vehicles. The volume of salvage cars at auction to choose from allows the buyer to be picky; to make a precise choice about the level of damage he is prepared to consider.

Small businesses are buying salvage cars at auction more and more as the recession bites deeper and some are buying in volume to ensure a supply of spares. Knowing the market is fundamental to making secure purchases and there is a wealth of valuable information through online services to support customers and help them make the right choices. Fees and security deposits are clearly laid out to avoid any nasty surprises and the range of salvage cars at auction that is listed is astounding.

Many auction customers look for the catch when buying salvage cars at auction. The fact is there is no catch; it is simply possible to buy at low, low prices when such volume is available. Taking full advantage of the opportunity to target specific vehicles and spares is just being sensible and using an online professional broker you can budget for all of your outlay before you begin. It is a transparent and easy to understand process and nothing like the old days wearing out shoe leather trawling used car lots and going cross eyed scanning newspaper classifieds, looking for a bargain that never appeared!

Always inspect credentials carefully when dealing with online companies and only part with personal details, especially banking details, when you are fully confident.

If you are going to buy used classic cars, the most important thing you can have at your disposal is knowledge of them. Purchasing a classic car is much different than purchasing a typical car and even for the most experienced buyers it can be a tricky feat. The last thing you want is to spend big money on a lemon. Here is a look at helpful steps that can help you find a quality classic car that you’ll enjoy for years to come.

Step #1 – Decide What You Want in a Classic Automobile

First, you must decide what you want in a classic car. Do you want to buy used classic cars to enter in competitions or do you want to drive your classic car on a regular basis for pleasure? For those who plan to use the car all the time, going with a vehicle in “show condition” is not the best choice. However, if you plan to compete, then spending a bit more on a classic car in better condition will be worth your money.

Step #2 – Research the Specific Car You Want

After you know what you want in a collectible car and what you are going to use it for, start researching the specific car that you want. Different cars have specific problem areas that you have to watch out for when buying. Take time to research the exact model and year you’re looking for so you know what to look for when considering particular cars.

Step #3 – Carefully Do a Visual Inspection

Once you are looking at a specific vehicle when preparing to buy used classic cars, carefully do a visual inspection. Take a look around the vehicle looking for body damage and rust. Ensure you look under the hood as well as the hoses, belts, and fluids. Keep an eye open for any leaks.

Step #4 – Take the Car on a Test Drive

After you have done the visual inspection, take the car on a test drive. Never buy used classic cars without testing them out yourself. Have the owner start up the vehicle and look at the tailpipe. If there is black or blue smoke, there could be a problem. Drive the vehicle yourself. Take note of the power, any sway that occurs in the front, and how the car shifts. You want the car in great driving condition – otherwise, you may end up sinking a lot of money into repairs once you purchase the car.

Step #5 – Ask for Documentation and Records on the Vehicle

It’s important that you ask for documentation and records on the vehicle as well. You want to see what repairs have been done on the vehicle through the years. If the owner tries to tell you they have no records, think twice before making the purchase.

Step #6 – Have a Pre-Purchase Inspection Done By a Trusted Mechanic

Even if the car looks great to you and it runs great when you test drive it, have a pre-purchase inspection done by a trusted mechanic before you buy used classic cars. A mechanic probably has more knowledge than you do and may be able to find problems that you could have overlooked. Ensure you go with a mechanic you trust and get a full report before making an offer on the vehicle.

Step #7 – Get a Vehicle History Report

Get a vehicle history report on the classic auto, even if the mechanic says things look great. This way you can ensure the car is not stolen and you can also find out how many people have owned the car in the past. These vehicle history reports can be done on the web and are reasonably priced and well worth the money.

Step #8 – Make a Reasonable Offer

Once you are sure the car is a good investment, then you are ready to make a reasonable offer. Make an offer according to the price guide with any problems the car has in mind. Remember, this is a vehicle you don’t have to buy, and if you don’t get a fair deal, you can simply walk away from the deal.

These steps are important if you are going to buy used classic cars. Always use these steps to ensure you get a great deal, and remember that knowledge is going to be your key to success when purchasing any classic vehicle.

Some drivers may not be able to afford to buy a brand new car but for those who have just passed and looking for their first car there are plenty of good options. Manufacturers are producing cars that are fuel and energy efficient as pressure from the government and green parties mounts on them to produce more environmentally friendly cars.

Many parents of first time buyers are now helping their children buy a new car as they look to ensure they are safe on the roads. Whether you have deep pockets or are on a budget there are some great cars available. The Hyundai Accent 2010 is a great car for first time drivers and has plenty to offer including a 10 year/100,000m guarantee which is very generous. This 3-door hatchback has a considerable amount of space and more than the majority of other cars in its class. The Hyundai Accent is considered to be an extremely safe and reliable car which makes it perfect for first time drivers.

The Toyota Matrix 2010 is another car that should be looked at and considered by all first time drivers. This is slightly more expensive than the Accent but has some great features that come as standard such as integrated front fog lights. Toyota also has a good reputation for safety and reliability amongst many in the car industry, so all parents can have their minds put at ease.

The 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid is one of the best green cars around at the moment and can offer a driver around 41 mpg in and around the city which is fantastic and great for the environment. The Fusion Hybrid also comes with an on-board eco display unit that shows you how to drive more efficiently and get the most out of your car.

There are a range of cars on the market at the moment that suit new drivers so be sure to have a look around and not to simply choose the first one you come across. Make sure you drive carefully as the winter weather will take its toll on UK roads where floods and ice may appear. Be as fuel efficient as you can as petrol prices are on the rise again but most importantly, just enjoy driving and be safe on the roads.

If you’re in the market for a car that can be rebuilt and put back on the road or re-sold, you have certain advantages if you find a repairable car with a clean title. A clean-title rebuildable car could be a car that’s been in a collision, or a theft recovery, a vandalized vehicle, a flood-damaged car or a burnout. In the case of floods, in particular, often insurance adjusters will get a sampling of cars that have been affected by flood damage on a dealer’s lot, and then write off all the cars as total losses. Sometimes these cars will come away with salvage titles; other times they’ll come with a clean title.

What is the one clearest advantage? A car that comes with a clean title will be worth more when the rebuild process is complete. A rebuilt car with a salvage title will be worth less, and many states will mandate extra inspections before the car can be registered again. Remember that some states do NOT record salvage vehicle titles.

You’ll also need to know that an unscrupulous seller can launder a salvage title by moving the car from a state that has salvage titles to one that records only clear titles.

You will, of course, need to check over a clean-title repairable car closely. Flood damage, in particular, can cause lingering headaches even after a car has been rebuilt. Inspect under the hood, under the dash, under the seats and carpets and in the trunk. Be aware of musty, mildewy smells (or efforts to cover up dank smells). Be on the lookout for rust inside the vehicle, or signs that the flood damage has been repaired or covered over. Water up to the floor pan of a car isn’t necessarily a big problem, even though an adjuster might still call it a total. Water up to a car’s windshield is almost always going to mean real trouble.

If it is at all possible, you should try to get a vehicle history report such as CARFAX. CARFAX isn’t perfect, but it gives you a leg up when buying a damaged vehicle (any vehicle, really). You can also look at the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s database to look for VIN numbers of cars that have been damaged in hurricanes or floods.

Clean-title repairable vehicles can wind up being a great deal for the rebuilder and reseller. Often these vehicles have negligible damage, or may just need cosmetic work to be returned to resellable condition. Do your homework, be aware of what you’re getting into and you can wind up with a car that can bring you years and many miles of reliable service, or can be sold at a fairly tidy profit. Also, remember that an older car has a lower book value, so it’s going to mean less actual damage for an insurer to write it off as a total loss.

The leader of commercial vehicles, M&M has also been producing passenger cars and has plans of producing electric cars as well. That’s the reason why General Motors separated from Reva, Bangalore-based company which is a global leader in electric car manufacture. Back in 1945 M&M stood for Mahindra and Mohammed. This man, Mohammed, post Indian independence returned to Pakistan and became the defence minister of the newly formed nation. After that, in 1948, M&M changed its name to Mahindra and Mahindra. With over 65 years in the automobile industry, this car maker has contributed a lot to the Indian marketplace. It’s time we had a look at the Mahindra cars plying on the roads today.

The Logan model was Mahindra’s first passenger car. The car was the result of the Mahindra-Renault joint venture. The price of this car was economical. The design too looked just perfect for the Indian roads with features well complimenting the looks. The car has ample space and can swallow in an entire big fat Indian family. Unfortunately, the very same big fat Indian family consider the Logan to be fit only as a taxi. The car has been very diligently been offering services for airport transfers and other commercial movements. Very few individuals have bought it as a family car.

The reason for the decline in sales can be attributed to the car’s big size. Renault has now left Mahindra to fight out the battle all alone in the Indian car industry. However, Mahindra has not decided to not give up. Speculation says that the car maker may come up with a reduced version of the Logan. If size is the problem, looks like Mahindra has found a solution. The 4.2-metre long body will be cut down to around 4 metre. The car may then see better sales figures.

Also to be noted, Mahindra is not alone. Very recently Mahindra and Reva proclaimed ‘I Do’ and it looks like the two car companies will stay by each other in happiness and trouble, in health and sickness and so on. The partnership will let the two auto makers produce a higher number of highly efficient cars. The two will also be exchanging best practices and thereby growing in experience and knowledge. While Mahindra will gain expertise in the area of electric and small vehicle production, Reva will gain a lot from Mahindra’s experience.

Mahindra’s dominance in the SUV segment needs no mention. It is leader in the segment with big cars like Mahindra Bolero in its portfolio. This car is known for its muscular profile and excellent mileage. The Mahindra Scorpio is another car which is the darling of many Indian. Its sophisticated looks make it a favourite even among the classy classes. If that’s not enough, there are revamped versions of these two monster cars, the Bolero Camper, Bolero Pik-Up and the Scorpio Getaway. Then there is the stylish and sporty Mahindra Xylo and other trucks like the Maxx too in the car makers inventory.

If that’s still not enough, Mahindra is also looking at bringing in the Ingenio. It’s long since the car maker had plans of bringing in the model. As of now, the thought has been put on hold. But, we can expect the Ingenio some time later. If it comes in, it will be pitted against the Toyota Innova, the Chevy Tavera and its likes.

If you arrive at the Hawaii Island from the US or from other international cities, you are most likely to touch down at the Lihue airport. The airport is a replica of the Hilo airport, in that it is simple, inviting, beautiful and efficient. Visitors will be ushered quickly through the formalities and they will find themselves on their way out of the airport in a short time. However, getting around Lihue is another story.

There are limited options before you in Lihue. You can get around using public and private transportation. Public transportation is sadly unequal to the task of providing tourists with the kind of service they want. The bus route has a bus plying every one hour from 8 am to 3.40 pm. This service is open from Monday through Friday. So, what do you do if you want to travel during the weekend?

You could say that’s what taxis are for. Taxis and shuttle service are modes of private transportation in Lihue. However, taxi services are very expensive although they are very comfortable. This makes taxis unviable for visitors who are traveling on a budget. Shuttles are available only at certain times and between fixed destinations.

Another major drawback with the public transportation at Lihue is traffic. Much of Kauai has a single road winding through the island. The road is a single lane road in both directions. Therefore, traveling by bus on a congested road is definitely not your idea of the ideal vacation.

Therefore, renting a vehicle seems to be the best way of getting around in Lihue. Rental cars are available in huge numbers and visitors cannot complain of a lack of choice. However, if you put off your Lihue rental car reservation for the last minute, you might be in for some serious heartache. For one thing, renting a vehicle at the airport is tedious. So, be prepared for a long wait. Also, the rental car terminal requires a short bus ride from the airport to the travel desk. That is the last thing you want to do when you arrived tired and achy from your trip. So, it is recommended that you arrange for your Lihue rental cars well in advance and reserve the car of your choice much before you reach here.

Rental cars in Lihue offer customers some of the best rental car prices in the world. Most reputed service providers even have tie-ups with the best rentals in the country. Therefore, customers may be sure of enjoying the best prices for some of the best vehicles in Lihue.

It is important to reserve your rental car in advance so that the car is waiting for you at the time of your arrival. If you leave this off for the last moment, you may not be able to get the vehicle of your choice, if at all.

Before you rent a car in Lihue, make sure that you do some comparison shopping on the Internet. Choose a service that is fair in price as well as terms of usage. If you choose wisely, you can have a great trip and leave Hawaii with nothing but wonderful memories.

Since its inception in 1945, M&M has been serving the automotive needs of its Indian customers. M&M earlier stood for Mahindra and Mohammed. This name later got changed to Mahindra and Mahindra after India won independence and Pakistan became a separate nation. Mohammed moved to Pakistan and became the Finance Minister of the new nation while Mahindra managed the company’s empire in India. It was in 1948 that the company’s name got changed to Mahindra and Mahindra from Mahindra and Mohammed. In the beginning, Mahindra was known only for its commercial vehicles. But gradually, the car maker started operations in the passenger car segment as well. Let’s have a look at the Mahindra new cars in India.

Forming a joint venture with the Indian car Maker Mahindra, French automotive major Renault brought in the Mahindra Logan car. The car seems to be just perfect for the Indian roads. It has a relatively high ground clearance which lets it slide through quite easily on the humpy bumpy roads in India. This new car from Mahindra’s stable is spacious too with enough space to accommodate the entire Indian family. Also, the Logan has become very popular as a taxi or a passenger carrier in India. With enough boot space, this made-for-India car is ideal for airport transfers too.

Recently, the global leader in electric car manufacture joined Mahindra. Mahindra, an Indian based automotive giant joined hands with the Bangalore (in India) based Reva after buying majority stakes of 55.2 per cent in the electric car company. The famous electric car, Reva, is now known as the Mahindra Reva car. The joint venture will help Mahindra strengthen its position in the low-emission electric car market. Mahindra also looks at expanding its green footprints in India with the help of Reva and India will thus see more green cars coming in from the joint venture.

Apart from the Logan and the Reva, Mahindra also has a strong foothold on India’s SUV segment. It has the Mahindra Bolero car which has captured the hearts of Indian off-road car enthusiasts. It is one of the best fuel-economic cars in India. With its macho looks, this Mahindra new car in India has easily found a place in the Indian hearts as well. Next, Mahindra has also introduced the Scorpio. This car again, like the Bolero, has been a leader in the SUV segment. But, the car’s sophisticated looks redefine the expectations for the design of SUVs. This car is a true wonder.

After tasting success on Indian soil for so long, Mahindra also has plans of launching the Mahindra Ingenio. This car will be brought in to pose as a rival to the Toyota Innova and the Chevrolet Tavera. The launch has been postponed for now, but may enter India any time.
